Botox®

How does Botox® Work?

The Botox® serum is a specially formulated matrix that is injected into an injured area. Its active ingredient is a neurotoxin known as Botulinum A. It works by blocking pain messages that travel along the nerves before they can reach the brain. Once the neurotoxin has been injected, it prevents muscles from contracting and sending pain signals to the brain. By preventing the release of acetylcholine, Botox® reduces or eliminates the nerves' ability to relay messages that reflect pain or intense discomfort.

What Types of Conditions can Botox® Injections Treat?

Botox® injections are used to manage pain in patients who suffer both chronic and acute conditions. A few of the most common medical uses are the treatment of chronic migraines, neck/back spasms, TMJ Syndrome, urinary incontinence, and muscle spasms that affect the eyes and face. Botox® has also proven beneficial in a variety of other conditions, including those that affect sexual activity, urinary difficulties, recovery from strokes, and other neurological conditions that result in acute or chronic pain. If you have any of these conditions or are experiencing symptoms, call Pain Care Providers today to learn how Botox® injections can help alleviate your pain.

What Are The Known Side Effects of Botox®?

Because of the amount of neurotoxin the matrix contains, many people do not report any symptoms at all. The most common include tenderness at the injection site and a small amount of inflammation in the area. Other potential side effects can include muscle stiffness, head/neck/back pain, muscle weakness near the injection site, flu-like symptoms (runny nose, watery eyes, coughing), drowsiness, feeling light-headed or dizzy, and varying degrees of fatigue. The majority of individuals who receive Botox® injections as part of their treatment plan experience very few notable side effects.
